The ImmunoComb® is a unique diagnostic tool which can be used by a variety of potential customers, each with different individual needs.
Here, you will find examples of how Biogal’s ImmunoComb® helped customers address their own particular problems.
1. Veterinarians
Presentation: Veterinarians in Korea reported that they were seeing severe cases of gastroenteritis in puppies that were previously vaccinated for distemper and parvovirus. They were concerned about an apparent problem in their vaccination program that they wanted to pinpoint.
Using the ImmunoComb® : Veterinarians introduced serologic testing with the ImmunoComb® Parvovirus & Distemper IgG Antibody Test Kit as part of their vaccination programs. This enabled the veterinarians to evaluate whether or not the puppies were mounting an effective antibody response to the vaccinations.
Outcome: The veterinarians were able to monitor the immune status in individual puppies. They could advise their clients when the puppies were adequately immunized or were still susceptible to disease and required additional vaccination.
2. Laboratories
Presentation: Laboratory technicians in the United Kingdom, who performed the MAT test for bovine Leptospirosis, had reservations about using live antigen for the tests because of associated public health risks.
Using the ImmunoComb® : Governmental laboratories in Ireland introduced the ImmunoComb® Bovine Leptospira Antibody Test Kit to supplement or replace the MAT test. This reduced or eliminated the need for working with live antigen and provided a safer alternative for leptospirosis serologic testing.
Outcome: An increased compliance in testing was seen and better monitoring for the bovine Leptospirosis resulted since lab workers felt safer performing the ImmunoComb® tests. The laboratories now work more efficiently with the Immunocomb; results are provided in shorter turn- around time. The national Leptospirosis control program benefited as quantitative results are entered routinely into the National Registry via the CombScan*, which can be accessed easily for follow-up in the future.
3. Dog Breeders & Trainers
Presentation: Canine Monocytic Ehrlichiosis is an endemic disease in Israel that is seen with increased incidence in the summer. Dog trainers were concerned about the exposure risks of security dogs that are kept outside and likely to have contact with the tick vector. They expressed a desire to diagnose Ehrlichia canis infection early in the course of disease when it could be most easily treated.
Use of the ImmunoComb® : The trainers instituted a screening program for Canine Ehrlichiosis in apparently healthy dogs with the ImmunoComb® Canine Ehrlichia Antibody Test Kit .
Outcome: The ImmunoComb® test was able to provide quantitative results quickly and efficiently, which identified dogs that were previously exposed to E. canis. This information enabled the trainers to develop an effective program for prevention and treatment of the disease together with their veterinarians.
4. Cat Fanciers
Presentation: Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a fatal disease of cats that is seen with greater incidence in catteries and multiple cat households. While veterinarians recognize an association between FIP and Feline Corona Virus (FCoV) infection, the complete epidemiological story is not well known. This misunderstanding has caused confusion and worry among cat owners around the globe.
Use of the ImmunoComb® : In cooperation with a world-renowned expert in feline infectious diseases, Biogal- Galed Labs informed cat fanciers about the epidemiology of FCoV and FIP. Biogal recommends that cat owners consult with their veterinarians in order to establish a prevention and control program that would include periodic serologic monitoring with the ImmunoComb® FCoV (FIP) Antibody Test Kit .
Outcome: Cat fanciers and veterinarians can be reassured that most cats infected with FCoV will not necessarily develop FIP. They are advised to reduce FCoV infection in their catteries in order to prevent the occurrence of FIP in their cfats. Control programs that employ the ImmunoComb® Test Kit to monitor FCoV infection via serologic testing can help reduce the need for veterinary treatment of sick cats and save lives
5. Farmers (cattle, sheep & poultry raisers)
Presentation: Economic losses, which result from Mycoplasma infections in poultry operations around the world, drive many companies to maintain Mycoplasma-free flocks. These companies carry out extensive serologic testing programs to routinely monitor the status of their flocks. A company in Israel was troubled because the screening test that they were using yielded a percentage of false positive results
Use of the ImmunoComb® : The company introduced the ImmunoComb® MG-MS-MM (Mycoplasma Gallisepticum - M. Synoviae - M. meleagridis ) Antibody Test Kit as a confirmatory test to insure that there was no evidence of Mycoplasma infection in their birds.
Outcome: The company was impressed with the quick and reliable results provided by the ImmunoComb® and decided to integrate it into their serologic testing program. They are satisfied that the ImmunoComb® helps them maintain a vigilant watch over their Mycoplasma-free breeding flocks.
